A little while back I was watching television in
a pub when a certain blond-haired politician came on the screen. It was a nice
family pub, very cosy, so it was a little jarring to hear the phrase,
“hanging’s too good for him” come from one of the punters. I made a few
sketches a few days later, based on the experience, but The Roper is obviously
not a portrait - his tie’s too straight for a start.
